LESSON 1/47: Slowing down in midlife
From Burnout to Beautiful: 47 Lessons at 47 for midlife women
Today we start the series From Burnout to Beautiful: 47 Lessons at 47.
Welcome!

THE TEACHING:
To become more feminine is to slow down.
Don’t be in a hurry.
Don’t feel the need that you have to be productive all the time.
Slow down. Have a rest and dedicate time to yourselF, to be simply still, to just be.
MY STORY:
For 20 years in corporate, I moved fast.
Fast emails. Fast decisions. Goals. KPIs. Productivity.
Slowing down felt like failure, I didn´t even think about this concept actually.
Then I had an opportunity and I left corporate.
After the masculine productivity there came the feminine slowness. I still did freelance work but a lot less and suddenly I had so much free time. To wake up late. To walk slow. To meditate. To listen to podcast. To listen to music. To sunbathe. To do anything I wanted.
At the beginning it felt very strange, to not have do do everything fast, to rush. Then I started to learn about feminine energy, and how its foundation is slowness, and I started enjoying it.
There was a time a couple of months ago when I injured my foot dancing, my foot was in a plaster cast and I basically couldn´t move. I just laid on the sofa and had to ask for help for almost everything. Those weeks taught me what is real slowness. What is real rest. When finally i was able to walk with crutches, I walked slower than old people on the street. But I was so happy that I could walk!
When we live in a slower way, we must do less things. So we prioritize. Our body, our brain, our nervous system relaxes. We have been taught that fast is good, slow is bad. But there comes a time when slow is really good. I´m 47, I´m in my midlife and that time is definitely here. But I had to change my mindset, so that I don´t feel lazy when I go slow, when I rest. To really believe that it is essential for my wellbeing.
YOUR PRACTICE:
Today, do one thing at half your normal speed.
Walk slower to your car. Talk slower in one conversation. Eat one meal without multitasking. Notice what happens when you’re not rushing toward the next thing. How do you feel?

P.S. I tried this practice today, I went for a walk without my phone and walked slower. It felt peaceful.
